BIO-CAT, located in central Virginia, is a growing biotech company and research facility providing the latest enzyme technology and custom formulations to our customers within the industrial, food & beverage, and agriculture markets. We are currently hiring for a Research Scientist in our Research and Development laboratory.

The primary duties of the Research Scientist will be:

  • Develop new applications, products, and procedures
  • Design, develop, conduct and review experiments in order to develop new or alternative products for digestive and gastrointestinal health.

Additional duties will include:

  • Evaluate new ingredients, materials, products or processes
  • Work on customer projects
  • Generate and record data, perform statistical analyses, and maintain/record documentation.
  • Share data with R&D team and stakeholders as assigned
  • Lead or participate on product development teams
  • Assist in patent work, technical assessments, scientific manuscripts and presentations, claims substantiation reports, and marketing collateral
  • Occasional travel to tradeshows, research conferences, universities, and customer/partner meetings
  • Serve as support to sales staff and provide technical service, training and support as required

Education: Masters or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition Science, Physiology, Food Sciences, Biology or related field – PhD preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Previous industry experience for Masters (3-5 yrs.) and PhD (1-2 yrs.)

Preferred skills:

  • Liquid chromatography and/or mass spectrometry experience preferred
  • Other applicable skills include:
    • design of experiments
    • knowledge of enzymes
    • attention to details and organization
    • good oral and written communication skills
