Probiotics – Made in the USA

Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host. This globally recognized definition sets a critical requirement that probiotics, such as certain strains of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Bacillus, demonstrate a health benefit in a properly designed clinical study. Examples of substantiated health benefits of probiotics include the support of gastrointestinal health, immune health, and promotion of the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. However, Bacillus species in particular exhibit several attributes well suited for use in dietary supplements and food.

After nearly 20 years of successfully blending and customizing enzyme formulations, Chris Schuler, president of BIO-CAT realized that a cost-effective, natural and green solution for many of his customers’ requests lay in emerging microbial technologies. Initially, the team considered building a fermentation plant on the existing 26 acres of BIO-CAT property, yet after talking to customers of Advanced Microbial Systems (AMS) – some of whom relayed stories of earthworms returning to soil after an absence of two generations – BIO-CAT decided to purchase the innovative company that had been a market leader in the microbial industry since 1993. BIO-CAT purchased AMS in 2004 and renamed it BIO-CAT Microbials.

Facilities were updated, new fermentation equipment was purchased and larger blenders were added. New measures in quality control were instituted to ensure that all fermentation batches were pure and of the highest quality. Over the years, new staff has been hired, and product output and quality have increased significantly. Together, BIO-CAT and BIO-CAT Microbials are proud to offer the latest technologies in custom enzyme and microbial blending to all of its customers worldwide.
